Snoring is caused by a narrow airway. As air travels through a slender tube it moves faster than in a wider one. In a majority of patients, a well made, well-fitted dental appliance will solve this problem. In other patients a variety of medical options exist. Mild snoring may be alleviated by loss of excess weight, regular exercise, avoiding alcohol, and medical evaluation of medications which make you drowsy. Surgery may be able to correct physical abnormalities which cause sleep apnea. Nasal CPAP (Continuing Positive Airway Pressure) through an air compressor helps force air through nasal passages, gently, allowing normal breathing. Lack of sleep will leave you tired, possibly irritable. Headaches may occur, as well as lack of energy, which can be dangerous on the road, at work, or at home. Loss of sex drive sometimes occurs. If you, your loved ones, or your entire neighborhood are losing sleep because of someone's snoring, we can help! Call 1-800-SNORING. In this area of treatment, Dr. Seal is a member of the American Sleep Disorder Association, the Sleep Disorder Dental Society, and the Sleep Research Society. We are also a part of the Snoring Network. Below you will see pictures of a state of the art dental appliance that can be used to treat mild to moderate sleep apnea. The effects of its use are depicted in the bottom two pictures.
